Gunung Stong State Park Adventure - Day 1

Let's start with a brief introduction on Gunung Stong State Park.

Gunung Stong State Park (formerly called Jelawang Jungle) is situated on the fringes of Malaysia’s massive Titiwangsa range. The mountainous backdrop there is made up of a chain of majestic peaks, waiting to be conquered – Gunung Ayam, Gunung Stong, Gunung Tera, Gunung Saji, Gunung Koh, Gunung Baha, Gunung Beirut, Gunung Che Tahir.

One of the main attractions at the state park is Gunung Stong (1,422 meters), a dome-shaped granite complex more than 100 million years old. Here, the seven-tiered Stong Waterfalls, reputed to be the highest in Southeast Asia, drops from a height of about 990 metres. Reaching the peak of the falls takes two hours of trekking for about one kilometer on steep inclines of between 60 to 90 degrees.

The journey began..

We started our journey as early as 6.30am on 30 March 2010. from USM Kubang Kerian. It took us around one and a half hour to reach Tanah Merah for breakfast. While one of the reason we stopped for breakfast was because one of our car had some problem on the radiator indicator. However, after some confirmation with the car owner, we would be glad to be told there already some problem with the radiator meter. So, we just continued our way to Dabong.

We reached Dabong Railway Station around 10am to meet up with our guide - Abe Dek.

After that, we went for caving at Gua Gelap, Gua Keris, Gua Pagar and Gua Ikan. There were no photo taken except at Gua Ikan because we didn't bring the camera there because scare of getting wet due to the cave condition. Then we been teased by Abe Dek for don't know how many times for not bringing camera together.. Haha..

After finished caving, we moved to Gunung Stong Resort for lunch and also preparation for climbing the Gunung Stong. Take a photo before going up..

First Pit Stop

After some rest on the first pit stop, we continued our journey to the Baha Camp - where we will stay for a night. After arrived, we set up our tents and went down to waterfall and preparing dinner.. haha..

We ended our first day of the trip with a heavy rain but it was a nice one with eating the dinner in the tent.. Some of them still come out cook their meal in the middle of night after the rain.. Hungry Ghost.. Huhuu~~
